Dhanbad DRM accused of stripping staff half naked

DRM Kamal Kishore Sinha has landed in the soup for allegedly stripping an employee of the Divisional Railway Hospital in his chamber for asking his wife to remove her shoes.

According to DRM sources, through the chief medical officer of the hospital, she called Basant Upadhyay to his divisional headquarters chamber and stripped him half-naked last Thursday. The DRM sent Upadhyay back half-naked after humiliating him and threatening him with charges.

Basant Upadhyay's only mistake was asking the patient (who was the DRM's wife) to remove her shoes before entering the dentist's office in the hospital as instructed.

Highly placed official sources said that the Delhi Railway Board has taken cognizance of the incident and sought a report from East Central Railway (ECR), Hajipur, under which Dhanbad division falls.

DRM KK Sinha along with ADRM and other senior officials visited Asarfi Hospital on Sunday evening and attended to the staff of the victims when they saw the problem taking a serious turn. Shaken by the humiliation of the DRM, Upadhyay fainted in the hospital while narrating the incident to his colleagues.

Later, the doctor sent him to a super-specialty hospital in a critical condition. The staff of the divisional hospital boycotted the OPD for more than 2.5 hours in protest.

East Central Railway Karmachari Union (ECRKU), Hajipur Central Committee President DK Pandey took this incident seriously and constituted a committee comprising Md Jyauddin, Tapas Sahu, NK Khawas, AK Daa, Upendra Mandal and others to investigate it. The probe team met the victim's staff admitted at Asarfi Hospital and obtained details from Basant Upadhyay and his family members.

"It was an unfortunate, unexpected and sad event. First of all, it is our duty to ensure proper treatment of Upadhyay and resolve the issues at ECR headquarters,” DK Pandey said through a press release in Dhanbad.

The leaders of Dhanbad Divisional Railway ECRKU expressed displeasure over the incident and said that they will protect the honor of their employees to any extent.

DRM KK Sinha did not receive any call despite repeated attempts on Monday afternoon. Even the mobile phones of ADRM Ashish Jha and senior DCM Amrendra Kumar were found switched off.
